Our goal is to see the world through the eyes of the young person and their parents or carers to provide the right support that understands the challenges that they face.
Environment
The Neurodevelopmental Disorder service provides male and female lounges with 12 single occupancy bedrooms offering en-suite facilities. Each young person is encouraged to personalise their own space. Our communal areas, multi-use break out rooms and school provide opportunities for further integration and socialization.
Our occupational therapist (OT) will ensure a sensory profile is completed within the service to further personalise the interventions used. The young people will have access to a dedicated speech and language therapist (SALT) and art therapist, allowing for communication needs to be incorporated into ongoing treatment plans. Mymwood Place also benefits from having two large multi-use outdoor spaces that are easily accessible from the ward for outside activities.
The young people benefit from having an Ofsted registered school onsite with staff who have special educational needs (SEN) experience. Our holistic learning environment supports each young person in core subjects such as literacy and numeracy as well as looking to develop and achieve functional and living skills. We also offer our young people the opportunity to engage with William, our autism life dog who has been trained to work with young people with neurodevelopmental difficulties.
