This week’s interview is with Nikki Holt, finalist in the Best Use of Media category.
Nikki is one half of the team behind Makaton with Lucinda (Lucinda being the other!), a lovely blog posting a sign a day.
Hi I’m Nikki, mum to Lucinda! Lots of people think I’m Lucinda!
Our blog Makaton with Lucinda is a video blog – is it a vlog?!? Im not sure! 😂 We post a Makaton sign a day, sometimes a little song or a book to help raise awareness of Makaton, and of Down Syndrome. It’s based around daily short video clips of Lucinda showing a new sign, and showing how much her communication, her confidence and little personality is developing day by day.
The lovely thing about a video blog / vlog is that it really is a lovely way to be able to really see her progress.
I’m not a tutor, but am working towards my options in this area. I have taken lots of Makaton courses, and am very passionate about it having seen first hand the benefits of it and how much it has helped Lucinda’s communication.
I feel a bit of a fraud being nominated for a BAP award! I’m certainly not like other bloggers! I don’t have anything interesting to say really! But Lucinda’s personality shines through in each little video clip we make so luckily I get away with it! Not much to do with me being an awesome parent – this is her nomination through and through 💕. I’m so proud of her 💕
