Children’s theatre charity, Embracing Arts, presents this year’s Christmas for Kids (C4K) productions. First launched in 2009, C4K is a sensory, interactive show with over 46,000 beneficiaries enjoying the show across the UK.
C4K is for audiences that cannot access theatre in its traditional form due to lack of fully accessible spaces. It is delivered both in-person at hospices and schools across the UK and in a digital format.
This year’s digital show is called ‘Phoebe’s Green Christmas’. It follows a puppet named Phoebe who has been inspired to do her bit for the planet in as many magical ways as possible. Audiences join Phoebe as she tries to give her friends the best (and kindest) Christmas there ever was.
In-person audiences will experience a show called ‘Chrimblesense’. The show follows two friends, Frosty and Joy, as they guide audiences through the joys of Chrimble using music, textiles, light stimuli and instruments. The show has a flexible child-led framework: sections can be extended, repeated or shortened depending on the audience’s response.
The shows are a free interactive, sensory-based series designed for neurodiverse children, those labelled PMLD and children with life-limiting illnesses.
The digital version of the show allows for children and families to enjoy the show in a space where they feel most comfortable, safe and supported.
The shows are accompanied by resource e-packs designed to support parents, teachers and carers to become facilitators of the show. The resources guide those facilitating on how to bring sensory elements to life for audiences and provide opportunities for engagement, communication and memory making. The e-packs also provide festive further learning activities and craft ideas. These resource e-packs are made in collaboration with organisations from across the SEND network.
Phoebe’s Green Christmas will be available to stream from 3rd November to 9th January. Visit www.embracingarts.org.uk/christmas-for-kids for more information.
