22nd January 2018 • My Family Our Needs

Nominees in our Microblogging category use Facebook or Instagram to tell their story over a traditional blog.

Some do use both, but we have compared their social media use and their blog posts. If their page just shared links to their own blog and nothing else, we had to be strict.

BAPS 2018 Best Microblogger nominations

A Life Less Ordinary with Autism

Inspirational to both parents with and without kids with autism, fabulous writing and honesty.

Autism from a Dads Eye View

As a mother of an autistic girl I follow various SEND related blogs and social media accounts. The majority of which I find myself leaving shortly after finding. There can be so much negative in the world of SEND. I thoroughly enjoy reading his posts and love that he opens it up to guest admins regularly to give us an insight into the world of other families.

Awareness for Autism

She uses her Facebook page to promote awareness of autism and encourage the general public to understand autism.

Born at the Right Time

I think she addresses some really important issues that families and Carers experience, vocalising just where they are at. A much appreciated empathetic voice.

Ethan’s Stars

She is an amazing blogger the words she writes is from the hart about the struggle of bringing up a disabled little boy

Isla’s Voice

Her Facebook blog is always written from the heart. She never fails to tell it like it is, whether that be funny, sad or bittersweet. I have laughed out loud and I have cried whilst reading it. Her blog has helped educate me. Not only that, I know that I am less judgemental when I see parents struggling with children – before I would have gutted or muttered about controlling their kids, now I would see if I could help.

Jospeh’s Amazing Spectrum Coat

She is a fantastic blogger and brings light to a subject that people don’t always like to talk about, she makes a bad day not so bad and I honestly believe by her talking about her bad days she’s making parents everywhere realise it’s not the end of the world. She’s not afraid to say things as it is which is so refreshing.

Lennon’s Legs

A heart aching but wholly uplifting Facebook page

Little Blue Cup

He set up this Fb site after being in a desperate situation needing a cup that his Autistic son would drink out of. Marc first sent his appeal out on You Tube and had a phenominal amount of responses so decided that, after being interviewed by the TV and newspapers after the story was spotted, that this was a problem so many other parents of special needs children struggled with. He set up Little Blue Cup and this has now gone world wide, supporting thousands of parents and carers in desperate searches for different items from cups to toys, blankets to clothes. It is run, supported and shared not only by Marc but also by groups of volunteers working hard to find desperately needed items.

Mama Unexpected

I became aware of this page on Facebook through a friend liking her posts. I love that her fierce love and passion for her children comes through with raw honesty. I am not a send parent but she has certainly raised awareness with myself and my friends. I just can’t help but feel she is an amazing woman who has thrived despite circumstances and still manages to deliver a brilliant, sad, funny, happy and hopeful blog. I also love that it’s on fb as I hate subscribing to stuff!

Mason’s Autism

She documents the good, bad and ugly sides of autism and not only is she incredibly honest but she’s humble. She astounds me!

My Daily Miracle

Gives insight into the life of a SEND parent in short easy to read posts.

PDA Parenting UK

A heart fealt blog that has really helped me understand the different issues other parents go through in a similar situation to myself

Stories About Autism

This Little Boy of Mine

Her posts show great insight as she shares her family’s experience in living with a young son who is autistic and whose life is affected by the condition known as PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance). Her wise and compassionate observations demonstrate that love, devotion and an open mind are key to managing the condition. I’m sure that her posts are a comfort and help to many other families who are new to this challenge.

Why my Autistic Son is Brilliant

She uses her Facebook page to raise awareness of home schooling her autistic son.
