Still buzzing from the Paralympics? Well, the World Para Athletics Championships are coming to London this summer. Tickets are now on sale with special offers for schools. Full price tickets start at £5 for a child and £10 for an adult.
You may have heard two-time Paralympian Jonnie Peacock on Radio 2 this morning, talking about the World Para Athletics Championships at the London Stadium this summer.
In July and August 2017, London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park will be lit up for this year’s biggest sporting event. Athletes such as Kadeena Cox, Hannah Cockcroft and Jonnie Peacock himself will be taking to the track and field once again.
The World Para Athletics Championships takes place from the 14th-23rd July and the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAFF) World Championships from the 4th-23rd August.
Offer for schools
There is a time-limited offer of 250,000 discounted tickets for schoolchildren in the Greater London area. Schools have been invited to apply for tickets to five mid-week sessions of sport. Mornings will be prioritised for primary schools and evening sessions will be aimed at secondary schools and colleges.
- The discounted ticket price is just £3 per pupil with accompanying adults/teachers attending for free.
- A dedicated Volunteer Host will meet and greet the school group on arrival and stay with them throughout their visit.
- Pupils will receive free travel on Transport for London services.
What if I’m outside London?
For schools outside of the London area, a day trip is possible. Schools can purchase a ticket to include travel and accommodation. More details about this ticket should be available soon or you can keep checking back here to find out more.
There isn’t long to snap up a ticket, the deadline for applications is Friday 10th February so make sure you tell the teachers at pick-up today and spread the word! There is no restriction on the number of tickets a school can request so they will go fast.
What if my school isn’t interested?
You can still buy tickets to take your child along, although if you’re not booking as part of a school you won’t receive the discounted price. If you’re making a day or two of it, there is lots to do in and around the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, including the huge Westfield Stratford City shopping centre. You can read the full accessibility guide for the shopping centre here.
If the Paralympic 2016 games sparked your child’s interest in sport, they will love being part of the World Para Athletics Championships 2017.
