It’s that time of year again; the Transition Event Midlands is back in Birmingham at a brand new venue – The Holiday Inn Birmingham Airport. Taking place tomorrow, Thursday 18th May, the Transition Event is a conference and exhibition organised by My Family, Our Needs to debate and discuss the future for young adults with additional needs.
With an agenda packed full of specialist speakers and hot topics, the day promises to inform parents/carers and professionals and answer the questions that enable them to support the disabled young adult in their life to the best of their ability.
What’s on the agenda?
The day will be chaired by Caroline Bennett, Associate Director for Social Care, Council for Disabled Children. As well as giving her take on the need for a conference like The Transition Event, Caroline will welcome speakers to the stage discussing topics including; education and the progress from Statements to EHCPs, employment and what businesses are doing to be disability confident and how to secure the right kind of housing that the young person in your life really needs.
As well as all of that, we have a personal take on the transition period from Mum, Rachel Mason, who has been there and done it twice with her own sons. Most valuable of all, Rachel will talk about how, with hindsight, she would have done things differently if she had her time again.
As well as presentations from speakers, there will be interactive workshops throughout the day. These include volunteering and the benefits of doing so, the ins and outs of the benefits and entitlements that families may be entitled to and good planning and outcomes for transition.
Be part of the day
We will be live tweeting the whole day so keep an eye on the hashtag #TransitionEvent for all the latest. You can also tweet us your questions beforehand or on the day and we will do our best to put them to our specialist speakers and experts throughout the day if time allows.
If we can’t answer your question on the day we will try and feature it on My Family, Our Needs at some point after the event, so don’t be shy. Email email@example.com or tweet us @weareMFON
